What to Say to a Group of REALTORS About Internet Marketing? – “Blogs in Plain English” to the Rescue
December 13, 2007 by LizLuby · 2 Comments
I just received an all-office email from our office administrator, Sandy. Here was her first point:
- Tomorrow, Friday, December 14, Liz Luby will be talking to the “Build a Better Agent” group regarding E-marketing. All are invited!!
***** Excuse my while I freak out. *****
I used to be a wanna-be actress appearing in plays and musicals. I tested my skills on the Lincoln-Douglas Debate team in High School. (Boy was that a disaster!) I attended summer school at Northwestern University to learn the art of extemporaneous speaking. (You would be embarrassed for me if you saw the fruits of that labor, but I did learn to twirl my pencil around my thumb.) I graduated from College with a Broadcast Journalism degree, spent almost ten years as a radio DJ, TV news reporter and even took a job as an “Anchor Person” for a few years in a small Iowa market. (One of these days I’ll dig out and dust off my blooper tapes or my fascinating report about that two headed pig.) But something funny has happened to me since then. I can’t explain how it started, but somewhere along the line I caught this horrible case of stage fright. Today I tremble and lose sleep over the thought of speaking in front of people. When our manager asked me to discuss internet marketing strategies with the other agents in our office I thought, ok, why not? It’s nice of him to ask. I haven’t been blogging for very long, but I can speak with some authority about websites and marketing properties online. I can at least talk about the stuff I’m learning, right? Well, I guess we’ll find out tomorrow. I understand there will be a few hecklers in the room, thanks to my dear mother, and business partner, Suzanne. Will I survive? Probably. Will I freeze, say “duh” or run out of the room? It could happen. Will I speak in tongues or start to swear? It’s quite possible. I’m not going to let my phobias interfere here, but I do know that I have an emergency escape plan. It’s like a little YouTube parachute. When the beads of sweat show up, I’ll just play Common Craft’s video explaining Blogs in Plain English. The video is about three minutes long. I’m hopeful that will be enough time for me to get a grip.

Finding Barrington Properties For Sale
October 22, 2007 by LizLuby · Leave a Comment
We’re working hard to make it easier for people in the Chicago Northwest Suburbs, Barrington, Inverness, Palatine and Arlington Heights to find The Luby Group’s websites and blogs online. Soon we’ll have a network of blogs, branching out from http://Burbfeeder.com, which will help people get the word out about activities, events & resources in their neighborhoods, communities or suburbs. We’re also adding some great new property search tools to our main website, TheLubyGroup.com. There will be many more posts coming soon and please feel free to participate.
Thanks for your time and your interest,
Liz Luby
PS…We’re not huge fans of having our pictures taken, but every now and then we force ourselves to so we avoid having those really obvious outdated REALTOR photos. The photo above is our latest picture taken of the whole group. That’s me on the left next to Christine Snelgrove (our Administrative Assistant), Suzanne Luby (my mom/a.k.a. “The BOSS”) and Susan Prokos (our “Buyers Specialist”).
Learning As We Go

Looking for a resource which will connect you with a wealth of information about the Chicago Suburbs? You can already learn a lot by visiting TheLubyGroup.com, but soon you’ll find so much more right here at our new Weblog, BurbFeeder.com. I’m Liz Luby of The Luby Group with Coldwell Banker in Barrington. We’re tackling this blog building thing with a combination of excitement, energy and complete cluelessness.
After all, we are experts in selling real estate, not deciphering computer code. Right now words like Widgets, Wikis, Pingbacks and RSS Feeds are from a language that’s a bit foreign to us. But we’re in the process of adding them to our vocabulary and finding ways to use these technologies to help sell homes.
We already put priority emphasis on using the internet to help increase exposure for the properties we have listed. We’ve got some of the best systems in place on TheLubyGroup.com to give home buyers access to information about properties on the market. But we want to take it all to a new level. Internet marketing strategies are constantly evolving and we’ll continue to do what it takes to give our home sellers and buyers an edge when it comes to technology.
We’ve done a lot of research, found a blog publishing system that we think will work well and off we go. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll add useful posts, links and many other tools to this site. We’d love your feedback and we always welcome your involvement. If you’d like us to set up a blog for your specific neighborhood, just say the word and we’ll find a way to make it happen. In the meantime, thanks for your time and your confidence. If you don’t know who we are, here’s a photo from last summer’s “UnCork Barrington” wine tasting event – I’m also just practicing uploading photos:

Luby Blog Beginninngs

In an effort to stay ahead of the latest real estate trends in Barrington, Inverness and the Northwest Chicago Suburbs, Suzanne and I are going to tackle the art of blogging. With so many blog options out there, it’s a bit overwhelming, but we’re going to go for it. That being said, let’s see how this goes. I may be holed up in my home office this week trying to figure out this blogging thing out, but mom I promise I won’t be wasting my time.
I’m not sure how long it’ll take before our first visitors find our blog, but I wanted to start by offering some quick links to some of our local real estate websites. If you’re getting ready to buy or sell your house in Barrington, Inverness, Chicago or any of the Chicago Suburbs, we’d love to put our digital marketing system to work for you. Trust me, it works. We have the buyer leads and the property search tools to prove it.
Thanks for reading,
Liz Luby
